Brain Health is Mental Health
It’s national Alzheimer Awareness Month and in light of that I thought I would share some ways that you can keep your brain sharp and engaged.
Sudoku and other word games: Rather than scrolling mindlessly through social media choosing to play a word game for 20 minutes can help keep you sharp and you might even notice it helping stabilize mood and relieve anxiety.
Walking and getting outside: There is a lot of research about the power of walking or participating in activities that alternately activate your left and right side of the brain. You can keep the “juices flowing” and even help regulate your mood.
Playing an instrument: Similar to walking, when we play instruments we are activating parts of our brain that tend to hang out in auto pilot.
Sleep Hygiene: Getting the recommended amount of sleep for your age group is a great way to allow for your brain to heal.
These are not guarantees or treatments nor is this an exhaustive list - but when it comes to brain health we often forget that like other parts of our bodies we need to do our diligence to keep it healthy too.
