Rhythms over Routines

We are all feeling a bit overwhelmed. As we are approaching living in this new way of life for a year a lot of these “unpresedented” experiences are feeling more normal. Apathy and burnout are both real and valid experiences.

That’s why it’s so important to do things for yourself that are healthy and empowering.

Rhythm: noun “a strong, regular, repeated pattern of movement or sound.”

Routine: noun “a sequence of actions regularly followed; a fixed program.”

Why am I using the word rhythm rather than routine you may ask… I believe words hold a great deal of weight and power.

A Routine feels rigid. There’s a chance for failure. Often when that type of failure comes, it’s easy to give up rather than look failure in the face.

Rhythms are a softer more grace filled term. There’s room to build up to the expectation. It’s fluid in nature and allows for a missed day or cheat meal when not in the schedule.

The subtle mental shift, for some, might help make for lasting change and a more compassionate view of oneself.
